Candle names are marketing, not information β "Midnight Study" tells you nothing about what it actually smells like. Most fragrances fall into a handful of families, and knowing them makes shopping (and finding a dupe for a scent you love) much easier. Woody scents lean on cedar, sandalwood, and vetiver, and tend to feel grounding and warm. Floral scents are built around rose, jasmine, or peony, and can range from light and clean to heavy and sweet. Amber and oriental scents combine warm resins, vanilla, and spice for a cosy, enveloping feel, and are especially popular in autumn and winter. Citrus and fresh scents lean on bergamot, grapefruit, or green notes, and tend to feel energising rather than relaxing. Once you know which family you gravitate toward, reading an ingredients or notes list becomes far more useful than a evocative product name.
Can two candles from different brands smell almost identical?
Yes β if they share the same dominant fragrance family and similar fragrance oil quality, they can smell very close even with completely different names and price points.
