Palm oil shows up in soap under names that do not look like "palm oil" at all β sodium palmate and elaeis guineensis oil are both palm derivatives, so a genuinely palm-free bar needs checking at the ingredients level, not just the front-of-pack claim. The good news is that palm-free does not mean a worse bar: coconut oil and babassu oil both produce the same hard, long-lasting, good-lathering bar that palm oil is prized for, without the deforestation concerns tied to palm agriculture. Look for the RSPO logo if a brand does use palm oil sustainably, or a clear "palm oil free" statement backed up by an ingredients list you can actually check yourself.
