Beeswax sits at the top of the candle wax price range for a straightforward reason: it is a genuinely slower, more resource-intensive material to produce than soy or paraffin, since it has to be collected and processed from actual beehives rather than grown as an agricultural crop. That cost shows up in the finished candle, but so does a noticeably cleaner burn β€” beeswax produces less visible soot than paraffin and, in most independent comparisons, less than soy as well.

You will frequently see beeswax candles marketed as air-purifying, on the theory that they release negative ions as they burn. This claim gets repeated constantly across candle marketing, but it is not well supported by independent research, and we think it is worth being upfront about that rather than repeating it as settled fact. Treat it as a nice piece of candle folklore, not a health reason to buy β€” the genuinely well-established benefits (clean burn, natural honey scent) are reason enough on their own.

Beeswax also behaves differently to soy and paraffin in one practical way that matters for buyers: it has a meaningfully higher melting point, which means beeswax candles hold their shape better in a warm room and are less prone to the soft, uneven burn soy sometimes develops near a sunny window or a radiator. This also means beeswax can be trickier to blend with strong fragrance oils, which is part of why most beeswax candles carry a lighter, more natural scent rather than an intense synthetic fragrance.
